You & Your Watershed

Did you know that you live in the Clinton River Watershed?  Join the Clinton River Watershed Council staff and learn what a watershed is and how our everyday actions influence the health of the Clinton River Watershed.  We'll discuss past local water quality problems and explore current water quality challenges.  We'll highlight current efforts to restore and protect the creeks, rivers, lakes, and adjacent lands within the Clinton River Watershed and we'll share seven simple steps that you can take to help protect water quality.

  • Rain Gardens & Rain Barrels. Rain gardens & barrels are used to capture and manage stormwater runoff. Learn how to install and maintain these tools to mitigate flooding and utilize runoff to your benefit. June 3, 2020 (registration opens May 20 - must be a library card member to register). CRWC's RiverSafe LakeSafe
This program is a program that will help the you educate yourself on the best management practices for water quality on a homeowner scale - lawncare, household hazardous waste, auto/boat maintenance, etc. and then provide you with recognition of your good practices from CRWC in the form of a lawn/garden plaque.  More information is available at http://www.crwc.org/riversafe-lakesafe.

Hours: Mon-Fri, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm; Sat, 8:00-11:30 am (call first if raining)

Orion residents may drop off household recyclables at Eagle Valley free of charge. This is a great solution if you missed a week, have a large amount of cardboard due to a move, or a large mixed metal item that will not fit in your curbside bin. Click here for information on what is accepted. PLEASE NOTE: Polystyrene and Plastic bags are NO LONGER ACCEPTED at Eagle Valley's Recycling Drop-off Center per the RRRASOC recycling facility we deliver recyclables to - located at 8 Mile and Evergreen). Polystyrene is accepted at SOCRRA in Royal Oak located on Coolidge between 14 and 15 Mile roads. Plastic bags can be returned to most local grocery stores.

Free Disposal Days

Waste Management also sponsors Free Disposal Days for Orion residents (must show ID). The dates for 2018 will be Saturday June 9th and Saturday September 15th. Residents must show proof of residency. Check with the landfill for prohibited disposal items (i.e., no tires, no Freon containing items, no yard waste, no liquids, no household hazardous waste).
