Orion Center Senior Services

The Orion Center strives to be a center that promotes independence and enhances dignity and respect. We advocate for the Orion Area senior members, their families and caregivers by collaborating and nurturing networks and relationships across institutions, agencies, and community service organizations. We encourage social development through crafts, games, trips, parties, exercise, sports, education classes, reading groups, volunteerism, and partnerships.

Free Orion Center Membership for 50+ Seniors

Membership at the Orion Center provides an opportunity for seniors age 50+ to participate in a variety of programs geared for seniors. Membership is free to both residents and non-residents. Membership allows members to participate in many programs at no cost including Movie Club, Ham Radio Club, Bingo, Card Club, Knitters and Crochet Club and Charity Knitters, Spanish Club, Quilting Club, Senior Healthworks and other activities. Fee based programs are also available for seniors to participate in including arts and crafts, cards, exercise classes like yoga and tai chi, Zumba, Monthly Special Luncheons and Events, plays and trips, and other activities.



Orion Center Exercise Room for 60+ Seniors

The Exercise Room at the Orion Center provides an opportunity for seniors age 60+ to use treadmills, exercise bikes and resistance equipment to enhance their health and wellness. The Exercise Room is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. You must have a current membership to use this room.

Wellness Center at the Orion Center

Beaumont Health Systems has partnered with the Orion Center and Orion Township to provide health and wellness services and resources at the Orion Center which began in 2014. Click here to visit their website.

Orion Township Public Library Branch Library at the Orion Center

Come by the Orion Center library and browse for that book you’ve been meaning to read. Stop by for a cup of coffee and current copies of the Oakland Press and the Lake Orion Review. Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Computer Classes at the Branch Library
Basic computer classes are held on Wednesdays at the Orion Center Branch Library. The student/teacher ratio is 2:1. A variety of computer, tablet and cell phone classes are offered for seniors, from beginner level to intermediate.  Learn how to get an email address, surf the internet, play online games, and much more.  Please call the Library Clerk to be placed on the student list for classes at 248-693-6840.

North Oakland Transportation Authority (NOTA): (248) 693-7100. FREE TRANSPORTATION SERVICE for seniors, disabled adults 18 and older, and transit-dependent individual who are residents of Addison, Orion and Oxford Townships. Pre-registration and interview is required prior to use of service, and process can take up to two weeks before services begin. Call at least 48 hours in advance. Reservations for doctor appointments will be taken up to three weeks in advance. Wheelchair lift available – please inform dispatcher when you call if you require facilities for the physically challenged. DISPATCH HOURS: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Services available on Saturdays for local shopping and on Sundays for local church services. Fares are $1 each way within Oxford, Addison and Orion and $2 each way outside of these areas.

Hours of Service are Monday – Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Hot Lunch & Meals on Wheels Programs

If you are going to have lunch at the Senior Center, please call (248) 391-0304 x 313 by 10:00 a.m. the day before so your meal can be reserved (to eat lunch on Mondays, call by 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before).
Meals are delivered Monday through Friday for homebound residents of the Orion area. For home delivered meals, call (248) 608-0264 for details and to register.

MEALS ON WHEELS DRIVERS NEEDED! Volunteer drivers are desperately needed to deliver meals to homebound seniors in Orion and Oxford communities. Over 60 meals are delivered daily. Routes are available any day of the week and on weekends. 4-6 volunteers per day are needed. This is a great opportunity for families, church groups, students, civic groups, businesses, employees and retirees to assist homebound seniors by providing a daily hot meal. Call (248) 391-0304, ext. 313 to volunteer for weekday meal delivery, or (248) 391-0304, ext. 324 to drive for weekend meal delivery.
