Seasonal DPS Worker
Position performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks associated with the general maintenance of grounds and Public Service facilities, including inspecting and painting hydrants, maintaining landscaping, inspection and maintenance of machinery/equipment used in performing assigned tasks, assisting with various DPS projects, light construction including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry and masonry tasks, assists other work divisions and departments when assigned. Require a high school diploma or equivalent, knowledge of working with simple hand and tree trimming tools, ability to operate tractor, utility vehicle and mower, and have the ability to identify unsafe conditions and determine course of action to rectify situation, mental ability to handle pressures relating to situations needing immediate attention, and physical ability to periodically lift, push or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as to climb/bend/stoop/crawl when performing custodial or maintenance functions. Must be 18 years or older and possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

Approved applicant must have a complete physical and drug screening along with background check. Pay is $11.00 per hour, no benefits. Season typically runs April through October.

Seasonal Outdoor Maintenance Workers

Five (5) Seasonal Outdoor Maintenance Worker positions open. Position performs variety of skilled and unskilled tasks associated with maintenance of the Township’s grounds and facilities. Require a high school diploma or equivalent, landscaping skills, gardening skills, carpentry skills, knowledge of working with simple hand and tree trimming tools, ability to operate tractor, utility vehicle and mower, ability to identify unsafe conditions and determine course of action to rectify situation, mental ability to handle pressures relating to situations needing immediate attention, and physical ability to periodically lift, push or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as to climb/bend/stoop/crawl when performing custodial or maintenance functions. Seasonal Safety Path Maintenance Workers

Three (3) Seasonal Safety Path Maintenance Worker positions open. Position performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks associated with maintenance of the Township’s safety paths, operates wide range of motorized and non-motorized equipment and tools, performs inspections and maintenance on tools and equipment, assists other work divisions when assigned, assists with construction and maintenance of trails and safety paths. Require a high school diploma or equivalent, landscaping experience, knowledge of working with landscaping equipment, ability to operate tractor, utility vehicle and mower, and have the ability to identify unsafe conditions and determine course of action to rectify situation, mental ability to handle pressures relating to situations needing immediate attention, and physical ability to periodically lift, push or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as to climb/bend/stoop/crawl when performing custodial or maintenance functions. Paid on Call Firefighters

Applications are being accepted to become a Volunteer Paid-On-Call Firefighter with the Orion Township Fire Department. If accepted we will conduct a thorough background check, physical with drug screening, criminal history and driving check before you will be enrolled in an agility test a State Certified Fire Academy, Basic Emergency Technician School and upon successful complication of each we will provide you with Firefighting equipment and a pager to be able to respond to emergencies. This is a very time consuming job that requires dedication and willingness to help your community and neighbors but the sacrifice and hours away from your family reaps many rewards.
