Private roads are maintained by the property owners abutting the private road.
Tri-Party Road Program:
Orion Township participates with the Road Commission for Oakland County and the County of Oakland in the Tri-Party Road Program in which the three entities share the cost of safety improvements to public roads such as passing lanes, sight distance improvements, and paving road approaches.
Stop Signs & Traffic Lights
Do you want a stop sign or traffic light installed? We will help you through the process of requesting these items from the Road Commission for Oakland County. We require that you circulate petitions in support of your request (we provide the petitions forms for free). Once we receive the signed petitions, the request is forwarded to the Township Board for consideration. The Township Board is only a recommending body in this process – the Township has no say in the final decision. The Township Board will either agree or disagree with your request. If they agree, your request will be forwarded to the Road Commission for Oakland County for review and decision. To obtain petitions or if you have other questions, please email Julianne Savard, Administrative Assistant, or call (248) 391-0304, ext. 1000.
